Launched in the summer of 2017, Norwegian Joy is the first Norwegian Cruise Line ship ever to be designed to capture the Asian market. SMC were again responsible for 50 % of the interior design, including public areas such as The Grand Tea Room and the high end Concierge Lounge.
In this new chapter for Norwegian Cruise Line, this 3900 passenger ship took design inspiration from various aspects of Asian cultures and traditions.
The design brief was focused around ensuring we delivered the desires of the Asian market, not only in aesthetic but also in atmosphere and the service provided.
An example being the Joy Tea Room, which was introduced to replace the Neighborhood Bar & Grill. For the new Tea Room we took inspiration from Chinese tearooms and used genuine materials throughout, whilst celebrating the tea ceremony culture with the use of display artifacts.
A particular design highlight was the Concierge Lounge located on Deck 15. This area has full height glazing running 270º around the perimeter with the forward facing glazing stretching over 2 deck heights that create spectacular views for the passengers whilst they relax with a drink.
SMC would like to share our thanks to all at NCL team for allowing us to aid them in this new chapter for the company.
